Event on Higher Education in Emergencies

At the end of the mandate of the EU Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis, the HOPES-LEB consortium (DAAD, Campus France and Nuffic), the German-Jordanian University and its partners, as well as SPARK were organising an event to reflect on experiences and discuss future support for higher education in the region (and in emergency situations in general).

The event focused on the impact of funded projects on the lives of beneficiaries, the experiences, fears and aspirations of students, and capacity building of governments and other local partners. Stakeholders also shared their recommendations for the way forward.

As new activities under the Neighbourhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument (NDICI) are to be pursued, it is time to take stock of the experience gained over the past years and make recommendations for future action.

The event took place online on Tuesday 30 November from 10:00 to 12:30 online.

Since 2016, the EU Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis (in short: the EU Madad Fund), has financed actions targeting both young refugees from Syria and host communities in Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey to provide access to better higher education and prepare them for the labour market.

HOPES-LEB (Higher and Further Education Opportunities and Perspectives for Syrians and vulnerable youth in Lebanon) is a €8.4 million project funded by the European Union through the EU Madad Fund and implemented under the leadership of the DAAD together with Campus France and Nuffic.
